Police Chief Larry Rodriguez
Tolleson native, Larry returned to serve his hometown as Chief of Police on December 6, 1999. His law enforcement career spans 37 years, of which 26 years were with the Tempe Police Department where he retired as a Sergeant in November 1999. His experience included assignments as a Patrol Officer, Narcotics Undercover, Crime Prevention, Community Relations, Criminal Investigations, Patrol Sergeant, Traffic Sergeant, Crime Prevention Sergeant and several temporary assignments as Patrol Lieutenant.
The myriad career assignments provided a solid foundation for his present position as Chief of Police for the Tolleson Police Department. The department is comprised of 30 police officers and 10 support staff personnel.
Serving the needs of the community, facilitating the professional growth of his police staff, encouraging a team atmosphere, and commitment toward a community-based policing philosophy is the basis of his administration. Larry is confident that by developing, gaining and nurturing the trust of the community and his personnel, he can be instrumental in the development of a professional organization that prides itself on service, quality, and professionalism, which in turn results in a safer community.
Chief Rodriguez also dedicates time to community organizations. He is a 10 year board member for the Hispanic Leadership Forum del Oeste, an organization that promotes college attendance and provides scholarships for college-bound students. He serves as a board member of Community Bridges, an organization that provides shelter and assistance to recovering substance abusers. Professional organizations include: founding member of the West Valley Police Chiefs Association, Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Fraternal Order of Police and the Latino Police Officers Association.
While maintaining an intense dedication toward his professional accomplishments and associations they are secondary to his family; wife Francine is a retired middle-school teacher, daughters Laura and Victoria, and son Adam. Larry’s hobbies include golf, reading, and when time allows doing a little yard work.
