As Chief Building Official for the City of Tolleson, Mario Rochin is charged with the enforcement of all international building codes and city ordinances, serves as the chief plan reviewer and inspector, provides structural approvals, and maintains the authority to interpret zoning regulations and issue criminal and civil citations for all residential, commercial, and industrial violations.
In his current role, Mario ensures the city adopts new codes and ordinances to comply with state, national and international regulations. Currently, he serves on the Maricopa County Association of Building Codes Committee and was previously a member of the Arizona Planners Association.
Mario began his career with the City of Tolleson in 1999 as an inspector and was promoted to his current position. Prior to working with the city, he was employed as a Plan Review Specialist with the Maricopa County Planning and Development Department, was the Director of Planning and Zoning for City of Douglas, held a Special Projects Enforcement Officer position with the Department of Defense, was employed in various positions with the Department of the Interior, and served our country as an Investigator for the Prosecutor in the JAG office of the United States Army.
Mario has earned degrees, including a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Regis University, a Masters in Business Administration from Southwest University, where he graduated Magna cum Laude, and a Bachelor of Science in Management from Southwest University. He attends continuing education courses to keep abreast of changes in the industry, including international building codes, zoning regulations, and mechanical, electrical, management, and planning topics.
