¡Si se puede! Seniors from the Tolleson Senior Center recently rode the PHX Sky Train® and got an inside look at many customer amenities offered at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport when the group was given a free, two-hour tour conducted entirely in Spanish.
The participants included Ana Schiltz, Luisa Guitierrez, Balbina Espinoza, Rosemary Mayes, Concepcion Hernandez, Rosario Jimenez, Dorothy Watkin, and tour lead Maria Herriage.
The group's tour included a visit to Terminal 4 where the seniors enjoyed the artwork in the museum gallery, stopped at the airport chapel, learned about the USO center, reviewed The Bone Yard dog park, and viewed aircraft take-off and land from atop of the roof of Terminal 4 garage.

City of Tolleson staff have spent the last few months working in collaboration with the Smtih Design Group gathering feedback from various stakeholder groups to help develop a design for the new city hall complex. The complex will be housed on the southeast corner of 91st Avenue and Van Buren Street. The complex will consist of a new library, senior center, council chamber/multi-purpose room and administrative offices. Within this development, dedicated space will be used to house the artifacts that are currently in the Tolleson Public Library now.
The last few months staff has collected resident input via surveys that were sent out to residents in the city newsletter. These surveys were also made available online and in hard copy format in the current Tolleson City Hall lobby. All surveys received have been provided to the Smith Group. The Smith Group will use the information gathered during this process to work with staff to create renderings that will be displayed later on in the process. By the end of January, once a request for qualifications has been completed, a contractor will be brought on board that will collaborate with all stakeholders to help in the development of the project.
As this project continues to progress monthly updates will be provided in the city newsletter and information will also be available online and in the Tolleson City Hall Lobby. Tolleson staff looks forward to creating a complex that every resident and visitor can enjoy.

Tolleson Counts is the tag line for the City of Tolleson Census Count Committee which is comprised of members from the Tolleson Union High School District, the Tolleson Elementary School District, various staff representatives from each department within the City of Tolleson, JAG works community program, and teens from within the community. The focus of this group is to work in collaboration with regional member agencies such as Maricopa Association of Governments to ensure that each municipality is doing their part to raise awareness on the importance of completing the Census 2020 survey.
The Tolleson Census Count Committee partnered with the Tolleson Union High School District to bring forward a Tolleson Counts Census Video Contest. The video contest was made available to all students within the Tolleson Union High School District. The students needed to create a one minute video that highlighted what the census is, how it impacts students and would encourage people to take the pledge to complete the 2020 Census Survey. Every school with a submission first and second places winners were awarded an overall grand prize winner. The winners are the following:
These videos will be showcased throughout the months leading up to the Census 2020 completion helping the Tolleson Counts Census Count Committee raise awareness about the importance of completing this survey.
