I would like to inform you on some of the steps your Police Department is taking in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal and guiding principles are to maintain continuity of Police services while focusing on the health welfare of our employees. We are all in this together and as first responders, we are taking measures to ensure service levels are where they need to be for our community.
Police Command staff met to discuss how best to proceed based on the current available information. The following items are intended to allow us to provide quality service while keeping our citizens and employees safe.
We are working closely with all state and local officials in making sure we are receiving current and accurate information that will be critical with our decision making processes. Please understand that this event is constantly evolving and we are continually monitoring and evaluating our responses. Protocols could change at any moment.
As we work our way through this Medical Event, we are committed to providing the same great service our citizens and businesses enjoy daily. I want to again remind you to take care of yourselves and your families and as always, stay safe.
On behalf of the men and women of the Tolleson Police Department, it is our pleasure to serve you. The following is currently in effect as of March 17, 2020:
*** If you call the Police Department for a nonemergency incident, Police Communications Personnel will ask qualifying questions to determine the need for a Police Officer to respond to your location. You may be advised that your incident will be handled telephonically.
If you have any emergency, call 911 as usual. There will be no changes in our emergency responses.

As we all push through and work together to combat the current pandemic, several changes have been announced on the City’s website. One of these changes is our monthly bulk trash collection. In coordination with Right Away Disposal (RAD), bulk trash for April is cancelled, and the service overall is on hold until further notice. Weekly trash and recycle services will continue to be picked up on the normal schedule, however, RAD will utilize the same truck to do these pickups.
The main concept behind these changes is to better maintain the weekly services to residential and commercial customers. Since the same personnel that pick up bulk trash also service your cans every week, temporarily cancelling bulk trash pickup supports social distancing while further protecting the employees' exposure from materials that could negatively impact their immune systems. Additionally, temporarily collecting trash and recycled material in one truck reduces the resources needed to continue these essential services.
The City has already been in conversations with RAD to potentially increase the amount of bulk trash each resident may place out for monthly collection when services resume. While it may be an inconvenience to hold the material at your residence for a longer period of time, our goal is to make sure the same volume of bulk trash allowed throughout the year will still be picked up.
The City foresees no immediate and significant impacts to customers by both trash and recycled material being collected in the same truck. During this time, residents and businesses will be allowed to utilize all of their trash/recycle containers to place both trash and recycled material in. While not required, the City does encourage everyone to still separate trash and recycled material when possible, so that we can easier transition back when normal services resume.
We apologize for any inconvenience that these minor changes may cause. Though, we are confident that these are important steps needed to better serve the community as we overcome current challenges.
